Web Design & Development
In order for a website to be truly effective, visitors must enjoy their stay at the site. Many things contribute to this experience, but the most significant factors are design (look & feel), ease of use, speed of the site, and usefulness.
Design & Ease of Use:
Surfers want a site that resembles the corporate identity they have come to expect from your business. This acts as a confidence booster that they are dealing with the same people as if they were to visit your company in person.
They also want a design that is aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. If they can't navigate their way around the site and find the information that they are seeking easily, then they will look somewhere else - guaranteed.
Speed of the Site
The speed with which your site loads onto the surfer's browser also affects the success of your site. The faster it loads, the happier your visitor will be. Considerations to keep in mind that affect speed are complexity of design, too many large graphics or images on a page, and perhaps the most important, the capacity of the server(s) that host your site. A good site design will be a strong combination of the above, balancing design and appearance with download time.
Usefulness
Not to be confused with Ease of Use, the usefulness of a site refers to the information that you present about your company, your products, your policies, and so on. The question to answer as you consider what to present on your site is "What type of information do people NEED and WANT to know about my company, products, policies, etc?" Then consider how this information should be grouped on your site to provide a cohesive package.
